Homemade Ranch Dressing is the freshest, most delicious version you will taste, and it’s simple to make in just a few minutes. Once you’ve tried this, store bought will pale in comparison. Put it on home grown lettuces and you’ll convert even those who don’t think they like salads into voracious salad eaters!

We started growing our own herbs and lettuces in the last few months, and it is dreamy! The hydroponic garden trend allows anyone to do this indoors year round, or outdoors in the right climate, and I just love it! Chives will also grown in a jar on your windowsill straight from the grocery store if they have little roots showing when you buy them. Easy and delicious!

Dill really makes salads and dressings take on a fresh taste that brings any salad to life. I add it liberally to both!

Try this out, and let me know what variations you come up with. The possibilities for  different flavors here are endless. Enjoy!

Prep Time10 minutes
Course: Salad, Sauce
Cuisine: American
Servings: 4
Cost: 2

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 bunch dill, finely chopped
  • 4 chives/scallions
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1/2 lemon's juice, fresh squeezed
  • 1 tsp water

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a jar and shake vigorously to combine.
  • Allow the dressing to sit in the fridge for 10 minutes or up to a day for flavors to develop.
  • Dressing can be kept refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 7 days.

Notes

  1. You can adjust the amounts of vinegar and lemon to make the dressing more or less tangy. You can also omit one of these if you don't have both on hand.
  2. The amount of herbs can be adjusted. Parsley is also delicious added to this recipe.
  3. On subsquent days, I like to refresh the dressing and create more by adding some mayo/sour cream and a few fresh herbs.
  4. On subsequent days, the dressing can thicken. Add a tablespoon of water or buttermilk/milk at a time to get to your desired consistency.
