The Best Things I Ever Ate

best things i ever ate

There are some recipes you just shouldn’t mess with. In this post I seek to share my favorite recipes from other chefs with you. These are 5 of my “tried and true,” go back to again and again, happy making dishes that I wouldn’t dare try to improve on. I hope they make you happy too.

The Immune Boosting Smoothie by Elyse Kopecky from the book Run Fast Cook Fast Eat Slow (a NY Times Best Seller) is an amazing start to my mornings. It’s green, and it has kale, but it’s a million times more delicious than it’s healthy appearances would suggest. Refreshing, healthy, satisfying yumminess. I particularly love the combination of a tangy lemon, ginger, fresh herbs and sweetness from the banana and apple. Enjoy!

These sweet rolls by ReflectingOnTheSimpleThingsInLife.blogspot.com are SO easy and quick!  The sweet honey, salty bread combination is to die for, and the aroma of fresh baking bread in your home will make you and your family exceedingly happy. If you don’t have a cast iron yet, you might want to get one to make this recipe! I like to add a little extra salt to these and top them with salted butter and/or honey for serving. Yummmmm!

This shrimp and rice dish from Giada De Laurentiis has been named my daughter’s birthday dish of choice since she was 3 years old, and the rest of us are right there with her. This 30 minute meal consists of shrimp sauteed in a lemon Tabasco cream sauce topping toasted rice and garnished with parsley. If you like tangy and creamy with a little spice, you will LOVE this dish.

If you use the instant pot for this Best Black Bean Chili recipe, this amazing dish comes together in under an hour! Of all the recipes shared here, this is the newest find for me, but we’ve already made it so many times! It’s also wonderful for a crowd. Mixing dry black beans with salsa verde and a handful of other ingredients gets you this flavorful, healthy dinner. Top with your favorite condiments and serve with tortilla chips, and enjoy!

Wrapping up with a sweet finish…

As simple and classic as Mel’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies seem, they knock my socks off every time. They are the perfect chewy, but crispy texture with a magical sweet and slightly salty combo. The brown and white sugar mixture adds a molasses or caramel flavor that takes the sweetness to a unique place. So yummy!!! We are now asked to bring this to our family Thanksgiving every year, and they are always a hit.

I hope you get to try some of these recipes from my most beloved chefs and love them as much as I do. Let me know how it goes!

  1. Run Fast Eat Slow (and Cook Fast) are both on my shelf and I need to revisit, that immune boosting smoothie looks so good! Also adding the cast iron rolls to my list.
