Green Eyed Lady Cocktail

For Mothers’ Day 2020, I’m breaking out an award winning cocktail, The Green Eyed Lady. This cocktail is a tart, smoky, citrus, spicy cocktail you will want to go back to again and again. This one won our neighborhood cocktail competition in 2016, and in my (green) eyes, it is just as current and delicious as it was then.

We’ll begin with grapefruit, lemons, tequila, mezcal, simple syrup, basil, jalapeno, and if you like, waterloo sparkling water.

Pink grapefruit, yummmm.

For these cocktails, I juiced 4 pink grapefruits and 2 lemons to have enough to serve up a few of these for me and my husband.

After juicing, strain the grapefruit juice to remove the pulp.

In a shaker, combine:

  • 2 shots grapefruit juice
  • 1 shot tequila
  • 1/2 shot lemon juice
  • 1/2 shot simple syrup
  • a splash mezcal
  • muddled basil and jalapeno

Shake with chunks of ice in the shaker, and add a splash of Waterloo grapefruit flavor, or another bubbly water if you like a little bubble.

Pour this in a martini glass, and top with a slice or two of jalapeno. This alone is perfection, but if you like heat in your drinks, there is one more step. Dissolve chipotle or cayenne pepper seasoning in a neutral flavored oil, like vegetable oil. Drizzle the oil over the top of the drink to add additional heat.

And here you have, the Green Eyed Lady, the spicier version. Just incredible. In warning, it’s hard to have just one.  I hope you enjoy!
